This week I’m getting more serious about my work and selling stuff. What am I selling? Pockets Full of Sunshine! How much? Priceless. This is a game-changer, my friend. Time to get rich! You’re welcome!
A little background…I was walking the dogs last week and listening to music, when the song, “Pocketful of Sunshine” by Natasha Bedingfield came on. I used to love that song…and apparently, I still do. So, I’m walking the dogs and I’m singing along (not pretty, I promise). People are driving by and smiling…some even waved. My smiles brought them smiles…or laughter…which wouldn’t be unusual. I put it on repeat. I felt great. All from a song…all from letting go.
A few things came out of that moment:
#1 – To start singing more…
which I have…while walking…while driving. Yes, I’m that crazy woman in the car next to you that’s playing the drums on her steering wheel…that’s me.
#2 – To share regular light-heartedness and levity with you.
You know me…I’m a seeker, trying to find ways to make my world a happier place…to see the things in others that we love and find those things in ourselves…to create more peace and perspective-taking. More compassion and love.
What you might not know is that I’m damn funny…sometimes…okay, a lot. But I tend to keep that girl hidden. Why? Seriousness is an armor that somehow feels like it’s protecting me. It’s not. Seriousness is a liar and a joy-thief, which is now a thing. So, I’m going to share more of me…for me and for you. You’re welcome again!
#3 – To balance out the information that’s assaulting you.
Yes…Assaulting You. You know, the sensationalized one-way news, the politics, the fires, the murders, the drug overdoses, the illnesses, the social justice trolls that just want to start fights, the crap that might be real, but is getting way too much attention. Others can keep up their mission and their purpose of getting that information out…I’m going to sell you on some pocketsful of sunshine. Free! Here we go:
Sports (and Parent of the Week) Sunshine: Trevor Hoffman
Trevor Hoffman was inducted into the Hall of Fame this week…probably the last Padre in my lifetime…Boo. His individual validation of his sons is the reason for his sunshine shout-out:
“My kids just want to know that I love them. It’s not about who the world says I am, it’s about who I am to my kids.” And then a focus on each son…
To the first son, “Your humor is a gift…Give it freely.”
To the second son, “Your determination and leadership is a blessing.”
And to his third son, “I love your tender heart and your free spirit, man. Always use it.”
Environmental Sunshine: 4Ocean (Cleaning up Our Mess)
4Ocean was started by two surfers that were on a trip to Bali and were devastated by the amount of plastic the fishermen were having to push their boats through to go fishing. They got busy, started a company, and got the fishermen to use their nets to pull plastic from the ocean, instead of fishing. To fund their efforts and pay the fisherman, they created a bracelet from the recycled plastic.
“…every bracelet purchased funds the removal of 1 pound of trash from the ocean and coastlines. In less than 2 years, 4Ocean has removed 1,113,217 pounds of trash.” Check them out. Buy a bracelet. They will pull a pound of our trash…yes, ours. https://4ocean.com/
Humanitarian Sunshine: Maurice Adams…8-year-old from Milledgeville, Georgia
This kind and big-hearted rockstar of a kid gets the human inspiration shout-out of the week. It’s the little things and Maurice made Ghandi proud by “Be(ing) the Change.” Thanks for showing up, Maurice and check this out: Maurice Adams.
Paco’s (My dog, in case you’re new here) Sunshine: Chloe…because she loves him (his words)
Paco wanted to give his first shout-out to Chloe…the little Maltipoo that squeals so loud when she sees him, the whole neighborhood hears her exhilaration. Paco says, “If humans would squeal with pure joy when they saw each other, there would be world peace.” Nicely put, Paco 🙂
Lastly, this is your one precious and unique life (well, this time around). Do you notice the pockets of sunshine all around you? I know it sometimes seems like the bad news is never-ending…but remember this: A shadow cannot form without light and there is always sunshine busting through the darkness….Carl Jung agrees.
Thanks for being you…Peace friend ✌️🙂
- Do you notice all of the good in your life? What brings you levity and lightens your mood? How can you fill your day with more sunshine? By doing more or letting go of something that brings you into darkness?
Feel free to answer or ponder those questions. And, if you’d like to jump into some coaching about you and your heart, feel free to check out the link here.
Got a pocketful of sunshine that you want to shout out? Send it to me! I’ll do my best to shout it out… “to the heavens and back!” (I feel powerful now🙂)
